Scary Junctions

A survey on the top ten most intimidating road junctions conducted by Britannia Rescue has thrown up the following results

  1.  Gravely Hill (Spaghetti Junction), Birmingham
  2. M8, junctions 13-21, Glasgow
  3. Marble Arch, London
  4. Magic Roundabout, Swindon
  5. Hanger Lane Gyratory, London
  6. M5-M6 intersection, Birmingham
  7. Piccadilly Circus, London
  8. Five Ways junction, Birmingham
  9. Magic Roundabout, Hemel Hempstead
  10.  Kingston Bridge, Glasgow

 The survey also said that 1 in 12 motorists avoided nasty junctions and roundabouts in their towns with drivers driving an extra 238 miles on average to avoid them. 2% of motorists also admit to not turning right due to being scared or unable.1 in 7 avoided driving in large urban areas such as Manchester, Leeds London and Liverpool because they are difficult to navigate.

 The survey also found that drivers found certain features confusing or problematic on roads. These are

  2. One way systems (14%)
  3. Speed humps (11%)

  5. Box junctions (7%)
